ISLAMABAD:
A National Assembly on Monday witnessed noisy protest by the opposition for the release of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and the independence of judiciary, leading the chair to adjourn the proceedings for an indefinite period.
The house met with Speaker Ayaz Sadiq in the chair. At the outset of the proceedings, the house observed a one-minute silence to pay tributes to the Chinese engineers killed in a suicide bombing in the Shangla district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa last week.
“We condemn the attack on Chinese nationals on behalf of the National Assembly, which is a representative of the House of the people of Pakistan. We reiterate that such nefarious attempts to damage Pakistan-China friendship will not succeed,” the speaker told the house.
The house also offered Fateha for the martyrs of the security forces in terrorist attacks in Balochistan. Besides Abdul Rehman Kanju, Saira Afzal Tarar, Saima Zahid, Kanwal Nauman, Bushra Anjam Butt, Huma Akhtar Chughtai, Mahjabeen Abbasi, Gulnaz Shahzadi, Shumaila Rana, Shazia Fareed, and Syeda Amna Batool took oath as members of the National Assembly.
Later, members of the Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) surrounded the speaker’s dais started noisy protest. They contended that the opposition had submitted an adjournment motion on issue of the letter of six judges, but the motion had not been placed on the session’s agenda.

Representing the SIC, Omar Ayub Khan said that the letter written by the six judges of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to the chief justice of Pakistan was an important issued and it should be discussed on the floor of the assembly.
Information Minister Ataullah Tarar said that the matter was already sub judice and the Supreme Court had constituted a bench. However, Amer Dogar stated that the letter was a very important issue, and instead of discussing other matters, their adjournment motion should be debated.
The speaker said that he had reserved the ruling on this matter and the house would be informed on it. The speaker also invited applications for the appointment of the leader of the opposition in the lower house of parliament and said that he would issue a notification.
Later, the speaker adjourned the session for an indefinite period when the opposition continued protested against not allowing discussion on the issue of the letter of the judges.
