Babar Azam Resigns as Pakistan White-Ball Captain

Babar Azam

Babar Azam, a conquering cricketer of Pakistan and its most famous sportsman, along with the other white-ball captains gave up the captaincy of the national teams. Babar stated in an official statement that the reasons were quite due to the nature of the unwillingness to gain more than what would have been acceptable. The 29-year old who has captained the nation in ODIs and T20s, in his speech pointed that being a captain has taken a toll on her as it is very tedious. Therefore, he feels that taking this hiatus from the captaincy will allow him to gain his confidence back and help him perform well as a player rather than as a captain.

Babar’s decision is taken after a tough time, especially to the Pakistan rae cricket team looking at the T20 cricket world cup in which they did not perform well. Babar still being part of the squad is anticipating the World Test Championship series against England, however, his decision factors in the need for personal development which has led to performance enhancement. He said that he wants to use this time to focus on his own game, travel to visit the family more and play cricket in a way that allows him to enjoy cricket rather than being in the position of a captain.

For the entire period of his captaincy, Babar Azam has received numerous accolades concerning his leadership skills and his efforts for the victory of the side. Nevertheless, the parting of Babar is on the grounds of a recent poor run of form – especially in the long format – that he anticipates working on, which will enable him concentrate on batting. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) accepted his resignation and extended their gratitude for his services as a captain but remained firm that he would still play as part of the team in the future.

Also, this can be viewed as a major change for the Pakistan team as well, since now the PCB has the responsibility of looking for the new one-day international captain for the Pakistan team. Babar was in favor of the new leadership and said that he would support the new leader since Pakistan had important tournaments coming up including defending the ICC champions trophy which would be held in Pakistan next year.
