Situated along Hornsey Road in Finsbury Park, North London, the latest mural by world-renowned artist Banksy adorned the side of a residential building. However, shortly after its discovery, the mural fell victim to vandalism, with white paint splattered across its surface.
Featuring sweeping strokes of green paint, the artwork creates an illusion of foliage behind a nearby tree. The mural has now been shielded by plastic coverings and surrounded by wooden boards.
According to statements from Islington council, the plastic coverings and boards were erected by the building’s owner, not by the council itself.
However, the council is taking steps to improve visibility by constructing a hoarding around the site on Hornsey Road, equipped with plastic panels for unobstructed views.
“We’ve had a lot of concerns from our residents about disruption from the numbers of visitors to the artwork, which is right outside their homes,” said a spokesperson from Islington council.
“We will monitor and review arrangements at the site, and will continue to explore future solutions with the building owner so people can enjoy the artwork,” the spokesperson added.
To enhance security, the council is in the process of installing a CCTV camera at the location.
