FBR to abolish non-filer category.

The FBR has decided to eliminate the category of non-filers and impose 15 restrictions on those who do not pay taxes, initially 5 restrictions being implemented. These restrictions include bans on property purchases, vehicle purchases, international travel, opening Bank accounts, and investing in mutual funds.

Chairman FBR Rashid Mahmood Langrial said that 15 specific activities will be restricted for individuals, who do not file tax returns. These measures are part of the FBR’s reform plan, which has received approval from the Prime Minister.

Chairman criticized the concept of non-filers, stating that such classifications are not found worldwide and should be abolished.

He further mention that the  last year only 25 billion rupees were collected from non-filers in fees, while potential tax revenue from these individuals has yet to be realized. Under the new policies, non-filers will be barred from opening conventional bank accounts, except for basic accounts for low-income individuals. To combat smuggling, the FBR is enhancing automation and workforce presence at key internal locations across the country.
