Leon Marchand makes Olympic history with double gold

PARIS: French swimmer Leon Marchand won two gold medals: in the 200m butterfly and 200m breaststroke events at the Paris Olympics, achieving a historic double.

In the 200m butterfly, Marchand staged a final lap to overcome Hungarian swimmer Kristof Milak, the defending champion. Marchand’s time of 1:51.21 set a new Olympic record, surpassing Milak, who finished second.

Later in the evening, Leon Marchand competed in the 200m breaststroke, where he once again demonstrated his prowess. He completed the race with a time of 2:05.85, setting another Olympic record.

This performance added a second gold medal to his tally for the day and marked his third gold medal of the Paris Games, following his earlier win in the 400m medley.

Leon Marchand’s double gold contributed substantially to France’s medal count.
